The first book in Yvette Carol’s Chronicles of Aden Weaver series, The Ori’n of Tane, is filled with fantasy and excitement.
The story is based on a boy called Aden, who is an 11-year-old dragonfly shapeshifter/human. He has always been a happy boy until he starts to realise he has been wrapped up in a family full of secrets.
This mysterious story is full of mythological insects and different creatures, darkness and bits that might just make your heart stop!
Aden has something that the chief wants and it’s something very special, the tane mahuta which is a stone. Aden is so young, but he is also the last descendant of a very special species and therefore, people are out to get him. You might think that’s not so bad, but if you have been chased, beaten up, and nearly had your head cut off I’m pretty sure you’d change your mind.
The Ori’n of Tane has so many twists and turns I sometimes struggled to keep up, but it is so addictive to read I couldn’t stop! This book takes you on a journey and you will absolutely love it.
Comparing The Ori’n of Tane to similar books I have read makes me realise that it contains so many different creatures. I mean, you have to imagine what they would look like and how they would act, and I guess that’s what’s so special about this book – you get to imagine so much because there is so much going on!
It works very well as a story because it filled me with excitement for what was coming up next. I kept thinking “what’s going to happen?!” because I never had to sit around and wait, the story just jumped and twisted around, and I was left surprised.
I think The Ori’n of Tane works well as a book because of how beautifully the author has described the characters and how she’s based the story in New Zealand, including Māori culture, which makes it very special.
