Elastic Island Adventures: Flip Flop Bay by Karen McMillan is a story about four kids named Kiri, Jed, Emma, and Ethan.
They have discovered Elastic Island, which helps them do tests which in turn help the destinations they get sent to.
This time they have to help Flip Flop Bay, which is in serious trouble, and with Captain Crook always trying to steal Blong, what risks will he take? And will the children be able to save the island?
The story unfolds when the children are wanting to try out a flying school, but on their way they meet some complications pushing them back.
This book starts off very descriptive, so you can get an imaginative thought of what the characters look like and their personality. My favorite character is Ethan because at the start, his interventions always go unrecognised, but there is always true potential in him and we see that as we read. I also relate to Emma and Ethan because I also am a twin as well and their bond is unbreakable which melts my heart.
You can see every character has a primary purpose in the storyline. The different characters have been shown by the variety things they are capable of, and who they present to be, and you can tell the book is written in third person by the use of pronouns.
In this book, there were some parts in which I even wanted to be involved, for example trying all the ice cream flavours.
I think young readers would enjoy this adventurous fiction book because it is straightforward, simple to read, and not too long. There are a lot of interesting big words in there as well which makes the book more fun to read.
I recommend Elastic Island: Flip Flop Bay to 8-14-year-olds but truthfully anyone could read this. It’s a great, happy book!
